Alex and Derek are married! What an amazing day it was! There is nothing better than getting away to the mountains on a hot summer day. Oh wait, yes there is! Seeing two amazing people commit their lives to each other, in the mountains, on a hot summer day, that is better. When I first talked to Alex about her wedding I knew I would love her and Derek. She was so full of life and energy and love for the man she was going to marry. I usually ask way too many questions and was thrilled that she was willing to share her excitement and love with me from the start. When I saw her on her wedding day I couldn’t have been more thrilled. She was just as fun and excited as I imagined. All of her bridesmaids followed suit too. They were welcoming to us and already having such a great time. This was the beginning of a great day.
Allie was having the same experience over with the boys. They were joking around and having a grand old time. Derek is the kind of guy that makes everyone laugh. Nobody failed to remind us that either. The whole day there were talks about how much fun these two were together and how great Derek is at making everyone laugh. I love when people have the personalities that shine out of every part of their being, that you just know before toasts what everyone is going to be saying about them. So great.
The day was smooth and beautiful. We did their first look at the iconic vail bridge and toted along the wedding party to spend a little bit of time in the village. Every step we took they were still having fun. Even walking all through town and up hills, they were there to be together and you could tell they didn’t have a care in the world. One of my favorite things that Alex and Derek do together is bury in each other. Alex will sweetly kiss Derek’s head and he will burrow into her shoulder lovingly. It was swoonable (especially when it happened multiple times during the first dance).
After the ceremony on the Wedding Island at Vail Golf Course we headed from the beautiful down low views of the Gore Range up the Gondola to the grandeous up top views. It is one of my favorite mountain views. We were still early enough in the season to have a dusting of snow in the crevices of the mountains and yet late enough to have lush greenery all around us. It was stunning to say the least. All the guests got to hang out on the patio of the 10th restaurant and enjoy cocktails and the view. Their guests were just as fun as the wedding party. Hooting and hollering and when we stepped out to take pictures of friend groups I have never laughed so much. They were so jovial and picked up Alex and Derek cheering on multiple occasions. This might have been my favorite part of the day.
The rest of the night followed with beautiful toasts from the maid of honor and best man and a very heartfelt one by Alex’s brother. I am pretty sure everyone broke down when he thanked their mom for all that she does. When the dance party kicked off, the tears turned to epic dance faces and there was no stopping this crew. It was a party to remember. The joy was contageous and Allie and I got lost in it. We were so glad to be a part of an awesome wedding and what is going to prove to be an incredible marriage.
Congratulations Alex and Derek! You guys are something very special!
Thanks to all the amazing vendors!
